Grace Baptist Church is one of the few remaining historic churches in Downtown San Jose. For over 80 years, its ministry has been based in its present building on the corner of 10th and San Fernando. There are currently plans to demolish the church sanctuary in order to build mid-rise student housing. 

 

Our group is opposed to this proposed plan for demolition. The demolition of Grace Baptist Church means the loss of a place of worship and a community center. Members and community partners of the church are concerned that the sanctuary’s destruction will impact their ability to serve the community, particularly the unhoused. We aim to preserve this historic sanctuary by making it a City Landmark, and support alternative development plans that avoid its destruction.
